Difficult: MODERATE
Time: 4hrs
Glacier Burn is a steep track that climbs straight up the mountains through the beech forest behind Woodbine Station, just 3kms up the road from Kinloch. Follow the creek until you see the marker to cross the creek and you’ll find old saw-milling snig lines near the start of the track. This challenging day hike offers excellent photo opportunities and the chance to view native birdlife.
After approximately two hours walking through gorgeous green bush you will arrive in Glacier Basin. If you follow the creek further up you’ll be treated to views of the Humboldt Mountains and the Glenorchy area, a great spot for a picnic and a rest. Take your time exploring the basin before heading back down the way you came; it’s not likely you’ll have to share the view as this is a light trafficked walk.
Do not go above the bush line in winter or spring as the area is prone to avalanches.
